HITACHI SELECTS SYNCRA`S SUPPLY CHAIN COLLABORATION PLATFORM TO ENHANCE JAPAN`S LEADING E-MARKETPLACE
Platform enables e-marketplace to introduce CPFR capabilities to more than
11,000
customers across a wide range of industries
Tokyo, Japan and Waltham, MA, USA - November 5, 2001 - Hitachi, Ltd.
[NYSE:HIT] today unveiled significant enhancements to its industry leading
TWX-21/Exchange e-marketplace by selecting Syncra Xt(tm) from Syncra Systems
for supply chain collaboration. Syncra Xt follows the Collaborative
Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR(r)) guidelines for supply and
demand alignment between trading partners to increase service levels and
reduce inventories. TWX-21/Exchange is the leading e-marketplace in Japan
and currently serves 11,500 corporate customers across a wide range of
industries including apparel, consumer packaged goods, electronics,
high-tech and retail.
The Hitachi TWX-21/Exchange e-marketplace, which supports approximately US
$40 billion in transaction volume per year, is adding CPFR capabilities as a
critical next step to augmenting its extensive array of existing services
including web-EDI, MRO procurement, quotations, catalog and data exchange
capabilities. Services such as XML/EDI capabilities will be added to
TWX-21/Exchange in 2002.
Hitachi selected Syncra`s supply chain collaboration technology after an
extensive test market evaluation that included in-depth evaluations of all
available CPFR solutions. "We selected Syncra because we were impressed with
its market leadership and experience from both a technology and knowledge
capital perspective," said Hiroshi Fukuoka, general manager, Hitachi,Ltd.,
Information Services Division. "Syncra`s collaboration platform is an ideal
fit for TWX-21/Exchange because it is built on open database and Internet
standards, has flexible data management and visualization capabilities, and
a high-performance exception engine capable of processing supply chain data
in large scale. These features are critical for our current customers and
the Japanese market as a whole."
"Hitachi`s selection of Syncra demonstrates that it understands the value
and importance of offering CPFR supply chain collaboration capabilities to
its customers in the Japanese market," said Jeffrey Stamen, chief executive
officer, Syncra Systems. "We are proud to have been selected by Hitachi. We
feel this reinforces Syncra`s leadership position and underscores our
strength in handling their sophisticated and diverse supply chain
collaboration needs at such a large scale."
The selection of Syncra`s CPFR solution by Hitachi TWX-21/Exchange
represents a critical milestone in the adoption of CPFR and places Hitachi
at the forefront of the Japanese market. "Hitachi TWX-21/Exchange is taking
a lead role in promoting this important industry initiative in Japan by
adopting CPFR for value chain collaboration and partnering with Syncra,"
commented Joe Andraski, vice chairperson for the VICS CPFR committee. "This
is the next logical step as we work to address the global multi-billion
dollar industry challenge of increasing sales, improving profitability and
efficiently using working and fixed capital which deals with the extended
value chain, i.e. from raw material and packaging suppliers to the end
consumer. This is clearly a major endorsement of CPFR by a leading
technology provider."
Hitachi, Ltd., is working closely with a number of leading Japanese
retailers and manufacturers in the development of pilot programs for Syncra
Xt, through TWX-21/Exchange. Syncra is planning for full production and
general availability of a localized Japanese version in 2002.
