eBay and eBay Motors the top retail sites visited in August, says Hitwise
In August, eBay was the most-visited retail web site in Hitwise`s Top 20, a position it also held in the previous three months, with an estimated 19.35% share of all visits going to the top 20 shopping sites it tracks, reported the web traffic tracking service. In second place in August was eBay Motors with an estimated 3.60% traffic share. Following eBay Motors were Amazon.com with a 3.30% share, Craig’s List with 1.59%, and Walmart.com with 1.54%. The relative rankings of all top five retail sites were unchanged from the previous three months.
With a 0.89% share of August traffic, Dell.com`s ranking rose to number nine, up from its position of number 9 in July and June. BestBuy.com, with a 0.73% share, dropped to number 9 from the number 8 position it held in July and June.
Kids, books, and Halloween were the focus of the sites identified in Hitwise’s August report as the four top “fast movers,” defined as local sites that had seen substantial increases in their rank in the shopping and classifieds category tracked by Hitwise over the four months ending August 2006. Fast movers include Costumexrpess.com, a resource for children’s Halloween costumes, which rose 2,478 places in the index from the previous four months; Cheapbooks.com, which offers a web search feature to find cheap titles online as well as a link to Amazon, which rose 2,235 places; and SpiritHalloween.com, another holiday-related site.
