Do it yourself: TV’s Bob Vila debuts line of tools on HSN
Home improvement guru Bob Vila will launch his own line of handyman tools exclusively on electronic retailer HSN, also known as the Home Shopping Network. Scheduled to debut on HSN TV and HSN.com in early October, the long-time TV host, former pitchman for Sears Craftsman tools and the man behind home improvement information site BobVila.com will introduce the line by guiding viewers through a variety of household do-it-yourself projects. New products will be introduced on the show throughout the year and be available for purchase on HSN.com.
Home Shopping Network is the flagship brand of IAC/InteractiveCorp., No. 23 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites.
Vila says that over decades of experience in teaching home improvement skills he determined that some hand tools were user-unfriendly enough to discourage consumers from taking on do-it-yourself projects on the home front. “That motivated me to create a line of tools that would help take some of the mystery out of home improvement and allow the consumer to get better results,” he says.
The line initially will include tool basics such as hammers and utility knives, as well as more complex products such as a 300-piece drill accessory kit. Project-based instruction DVDs and corresponding tools also will be available as kits.
HSN is a unit of IAC/InteractiveCorp. It reaches some 89 million U.S. households and is now the fourth largest cable television network in the U.S.
