New E-Commerce Website for Magellan’s Runs on MarketLive Intelligent Selling System
Technology and Design from MML Links Content to Commerce to Provide a Unique Online Shopping Experience
Petaluma, CA -- November 7, 2001 -- Multimedia Live (MML) (http://www.mmlive.com), the leading developer of e-commerce technology and services for Intelligent Selling™ on the Web, has announced the launch of its new website for travel goods cataloger and e-commerce veteran Magellan’s (http://www.magellans.com). The new e-commerce site runs on the MarketLive™ Intelligent Selling System™ from MML, and uses new site design and architecture by MML. Highlights of the site include a huge library of travel information linked to related products, an optimized feature-rich user interface, multiple search methods, and many other features, all of which are designed to support the Magellan’s brand and increase customer loyalty.
Magellan’s offers a line of travel products and information unequaled in breadth or quality, including clothing for men and women, travel-related appliances and gadgets, health products, and more. The new site is designed to enhance the Magellan’s brand image as the prime destination on the Web for serious travelers. The MML-designed user interface helps Magellan’s share its wealth of travel-related information through links from every product page to related information such as product reviews and articles about the countries where that product might be used. Likewise, every article contains links to related products. This advanced approach to selling puts content and commerce on a virtually even footing, educating shoppers and boosting customer loyalty.
MML created the MarketLive Intelligent Selling System specifically for companies like Magellan’s selling their goods and services on the Web. The Magellan’s site takes advantage of many MarketLive features that improve the effectiveness of online merchandising and make shopping online easy and enjoyable for customers. Standard MarketLive features in use on the Magellan’s site include catalog quick-shop, live customer service chat, personal accounts, ensemble selling, easy administration of the entire site without programming, inventory status available from the product page, up to three cross-sells on any page, and more. The site also includes several features that were custom-programmed specifically for this deployment:
Customers can shop by product category, destination, activity type, or traveler type.
All product pages have links to articles, other products in that category, multiple views, cross-sells, and product reviews by customers.
Standard MarketLiveTM “review order status” feature is tied to the United Parcel Service (UPS) tracking system for accurate up-to-the-minute tracking of all orders.
Vital statistics are available for over 220 countries: electrical voltage, language, and currency.
Rotating category-specific travel tips appear on every gateway.
Hundreds of articles, each containing up to 6 links to related products.
Content available from all product pages includes extended product descriptions, country vital statistics, multiple product views, and information on the climate and conditions in which the product is best used. Tips on how to best enjoy your globe-wandering experiences and recommendations on which products to pack are also available.
“This site is a tour-de-force of online merchandising best practices,” said Ken Burke, President and CEO of Multimedia Live. “MML built a content-rich site in which travel research and shopping work hand-in-hand to the benefit of the customer. This is a one-stop site for anyone going practically anywhere in the world, directly supporting the Magellan’s online strategy. Magellan’s is one of the oldest and most successful online merchandisers, and we are very pleased to have worked with them on this project.”
