Americans Charge Into Holidays
(November 30, 1999)-- Some 56% of American consumers plan to use credit cards for at least some of their holiday purchases this year, according to a survey by Auriemma Consulting Group Inc., Westbury, N.Y. While 25% of 501 respondents plan to combine credit cards with their regular income and savings to finance most of their purchases, 14% plan to rely primarily on credit and repay the balance quickly, while 6% expect to use credit cards and repay the balance over time. In total, respondents expect to use credit cards for 31% of their holiday purchases, with higher-income consumers using their cards proportionally more than others, the company says.
