Blockbuster and MGM today announced a deal aimed at putting movies on the Internet. The nonexclusive agreement allows Blockbuster to make selected MGM films for digital streaming and downloading video via the Internet and other home delivery technologies.
Blockbuster CEO John Antioco says the pact will help his company provide "quality entertainment in whatever form our customers want it delivered."
MGM boasts a library with 4,100 movie titles, although it no longer retains rights to some of its most famous films. The agreement is part of a multi-year VHS revenue-sharing arrangement that encompasses both new MGM films and those in its library.
