Staples` global e-commerce sales jump 27% in Q2


Staples is reporting a 27% jump in global e-commerce sales for the second quarter while total sales rose by 12%.

Staples, No. 3 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, normally doesn’t break out quarterly e-commerce sales. But on a recent conference call with stock and research analysts, Staples told Wall Street that Staples` worlwide e-commerce sales in the second quarter totaled $1.1 billion, compared with about $866.1 million in Q2 2005. The company`s worldwide e-commerce sales figure includes Staples.com, StaplesLink.com, Quill.com, Staples.ca and other international e-commerce sites.

At the same time total Q2 sales rose to $3.88 billion from $3.47 billion in Q2 2005. "With strong traffic in North American retail, continued momentum in North American delivery and steady progress in international, 2006 is on track to be another great year,” says Staples chairman and CEO Ron Sargent.

In Q2 the web represented 28% of all sales vs. 25% in Q2 2005.
