Discover Launches Online Wallet
Last among the credit card brands to offer a digital wallet to cardholders, Riverwoods, Ill.-based Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., issuer of Discover, has launched the Desk$hop online wallet. Desk$hop enables cardholders to automatically fill out purchase forms at online merchants and also access account information.
Discover is the first issuer to combine online account access with a shopping assistant, says Colleen Zambole, vice president of electronic commerce. "Desk$hop takes your transactional card in your wallet, your statement, your ability to purchase, and brings them all together in one place," she says.
Unlike some other issuer-offered digital wallet's Desk$hop is only available to Discover cardholders, and it will only hold a Discover card. At first, it will be marketed only to Discover's 1.1 million cardholders who have registered on Discover's Web site.
"We did a different take on this," admits Zambole. "It is not a multiple-card wallet. It is your relationship with Discover." Discover says that hundreds of merchants have formatted their Web sites to work with Desk$hop, and that it is adding new merchants daily.
