Q3 online retail sales climb 21% over year ago, Commerce Department reports
Online retail sales in Q3 grew at four times the rate of total retail sales, the Commerce Department reported today.
Online retail sales in the third quarter reached $27.5 billion, up 20.9% over Q3 in 2005, the Census Bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce reports. The numbers have been adjusted for seasonal variation and trading day differences. Q3’s online sales accounted for 2.8% of all retail sales as measured by the Commerce Department.
On a not-adjusted basis, online sales in the third quarter reached $25.6 billion, up 20.4% from a year earlier.
The Commerce Department reports that total retail sales for the third quarter 2006 reached $991.7 billion, on an adjusted basis, up 5.1% from a year earlier.
