E*Trade Group Inc. says eBay users who open a new E*Trade account will receive the cash value of one share of eBay common stock. The special promotion will be available for eBay customers starting February 2000 through July of 2000. Menlo Park, Calif.-based E*Trade will credit each new account opened through this promotion with the cash value of one share of eBay common stock. The value of the one share of eBay common stock will be determined by using the closing price of eBay on the Friday after the new account has been opened, the companies say. eBay will promote the offer through special banner advertisements on the eBay Web site, such as eBay's "Cool Happenings" section.
