Arizona Diamondbacks kick off opening day with loyalty e-mall

At the team’s opening-day game today, the Arizona Diamondbacks became the second professional baseball team to launch a new customer loyalty program tied to an online mall of more than 250 e-retailers.

The Phoenix-based Diamondbacks, working with loyalty program provider Sports Loyalty Systems and retailer aggregator Mall Networks, launched its Diamondbacks MVP Rewards loyalty program, which lets fans earn points when shopping at online retailers including Macys.com, Amazon.com, Overstock.com, Barnes & Noble.com, Sears.com and LandsEnd.com. The program’s points, which also can be earned at stadium concessions and Phoenix-area store retailers, can be used toward the purchase of game tickets, club merchandise and special Diamondback events.

The Diamondbacks club is the second Major League Baseball team to participate with SLS and Mall Networks, following the launch of a similar loyalty program by the L.A. Dodgers in March. Scott Todaro, vice president of marketing for Sports Licensing Systems, said SLS expects to extend its loyalty program services, including connections to Mall Networks, to about 12 teams this year and all Major League Baseball teams over the next few years.
