CrossMedia adopts its best known product as its corporate name—ShopLocal


If you’re known by your product name, then why not adopt that as your corporate name? That’s what Chicago-based CrossMedia Service Inc. is doing by changing its official name to ShopLocal LLC.

ShopLocal, which was founded in 1999 by CEO Brian Hand, provides web-based shopping services for retailers through ShopLocal.com and a suite of shopping products and services, including SmartCircular, SmartCatalog, and The ShopLocal Network.

ComSore Media Metrix reports that ShopLocal.com is the 10th largest comparison-shopping site on the web. The change in name will be accompanied by revamp of the web site, the company says.

In the past six years, the company has moved its emphasis from converting sales circulars and newspaper ads into web content:
• SmartCircular converts print promotions into an online format to drive in-store traffic.
• SmartCatalog presents print catalog content on the web, with a focus on aligning the online brand and the store experience.
• ShopLocal.com provides consumers with deals and products from national chains to regional and local businesses, featuring both in-store specials and e-commerce offerings.
• The ShopLocal Network includes more than 200 media, search and shopping sites, providing advertisers access to a geographically-based marketplace of shoppers.
• DataPoint Services provides shopping data and analysis to advertisers.
