Sephora U.S.A. Inc. will become the exclusive beauty offering at JCPenney.com and in JCPenney stores beginning as early as this fall, the two retailers announced today.
Under the agreement, Sephora will sell beauty products—cosmetic, skin care, fragrance and accessory products—through a link from JCP.com to Sephora.com. “We see this initiative as a way to dramatically increase our retail presence while we continue our core strategy of aggressively building free-standing stores across the country,” said David Suliteanu, president and CEO of Sephora U.S.A. Sephora, No. 148 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has 120 stores nationwide.
Sephora also will open “stores within stores” in JCPenney stores. JCPenney, No.11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has 1,019 stores nationwide.
“Our initiative with Sephora is a clear reflection of the transformation underway at JCPenney as we seek to build an emotional connection with our current customers and bring new customers into our stores and onto www.jcp.com,” said Myron E. (Mike) Ullman III, JCPenney chairman and CEO.
