JDA Software Implements JDA Portfolio Open Merchandising System in Only 8 Months at US$2 Billion Blokker Holdings Retail Division
Rapid Implementation Enables Leen Bakker to Focus on ROI initiatives
Scottsdale, Ariz. - December 13, 2001 - JDA® Software Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:
JDAS) announced that Leen Bakker Groothandel B.V., the Holland-based value
furniture and floor coverings retail division of US$2 billion Blokker
Holdings, one of the largest privately owned European retail companies, has
implemented Open DataBase Merchandising System(tm) (ODBMS®) in just eight
months. Leen Bakker, which operates 150 superstores throughout the
Netherlands and Belgium, licensed the JDA Portfolio(tm) client/server
merchandising application in first quarter 2001.
ODBMS is part of Leen Bakker`s massive business transformation IT project
that will support its European expansion plans. In addition to replacing its
core merchandising engine with ODBMS, the retailer also implemented POS,
financial, human resource and other third party operational systems.
Leen Bakker went live with these systems using a "big bang" approach in
order to efficiently operate its entire supply chain, from store order to
store-delivery and purchase ordering to receiving in the warehouse. ODBMS
was fully operational to run Leen Bakker`s business from the moment that the
retailer switched off its old legacy system.
Commenting on the retailer`s aggressive implementation of ODBMS, Erwin
Baarends, Leen Bakker`s director of logistics and information communications
technology, stated, "Large scale IT projects often carry on for two or more
years and lose purpose and credibility. What distinguishes our project is
that everyone involved within Leen Bakker and JDA successfully focused to
complete this implementation to plan and to budget."
Baarends noted that Leen Bakker achieved success by honing in on ODBMS` core
capabilities rather than spending time implementing `bells and whistles.`
"JDA`s proven implementation methodology and the consultants` in-depth
understanding of our unique requirements enabled us to leverage key ODBMS
functionality to help us achieve our immediate goal of improving efficient
product flow and stabilizing supply chain processes."
"We are pleased to welcome Leen Bakker to our growing list of JDA Portfolio
clients who have implemented and are successfully operating their business
using our sophisticated solution. While there are many unfortunate examples
of long, difficult and costly implementations reported in the industry, JDA
continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver advanced capabilities in the
most cost effective and timely fashion. We don`t believe that anything less
is acceptable in today`s challenging and dynamic environment," stated JDA
president Hamish Brewer.
"Leen Bakker`s ability to rapidly implement and adopt ODBMS into its
business practices is unquestionably impressive," added Bob Swanson, JDA`s
regional managing director. "This achievement underscores the paramount
importance that retailers worldwide are placing on `quick hit` ROI
initiatives and business benefits. By combining the broadest suite of
integrated best-of-breed applications, with our no-constraints architecture
and modular implementation engineering approach, our Portfolio solution
offers the highest scalability and price/performance on the market today."
Leen Bakker is fully operational to support JDA`s ODBMS and is operating it
on the Microsoft Windows platform at the Desktop as well as at the
Enterprise Server.
