With sales growing at 40% a year, Luggage Online, the e-commerce arm of the 7-store chain Robinson Luggage in Philadelphia, has moved into a new 20,000-square-foot distribution facility from a 9,000-square-foot center that it had occupied for five years. The company says it expects this facility to be adequate for another four to five years.
“While other online retailers are drop shipping more product, we are expanding our warehouse and stocking more goods. It gives us greater control of our inventory, allows us to make better deals with manufacturers, and enables us to provide faster service,” says Tim Jacobsen, vice president of e-commerce.
The move came at the same time that Luggage Online launched a redesigned web site.
Luggage Online, which offers over 2,000 products from 80 brands, says it expects this year’s sales to exceed all of Robinson Luggage’s store sales. "By offering great products and superior service for nearly 80 years, Robinson Luggage has become an institution in the Philadelphia area. We make every effort to do the same on the web with Luggage Online. We are extremely pleased with the growth of our web business,” says Sharon Laudenbach, president of Robinson Luggage / Luggage Online.
