Online retail sales will hit $210 billion in 2010: Forrester
Online retail sales, excluding travel and auctions, will grow to $210 billion in 2010 from $110 billion this year, according to Forrester Research. But with nearly two-thirds of online North American households making purchases online, overall online-shopping household growth will slow in the next five years.
Categories expected to show above average compounded annual growth over the next 5 years include apparel (16%), consumer electronics (15%), health and beauty (22%), home products (16%), and sporting goods (16%), according to Forrester. In comparison, overall online sales, including auctions and travel, are expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 14%.
Forrester also estimates that online sales, excluding auctions and travel, will account for 9% of total retail sales in 2010.
