Guitar Center grows its half-year web sales by 23%
Guitar Center Inc., which operates MusiciansFriend.com and Giardinelli.com, is reporting solid Internet sales for the first half of the year. For the period of January through June 2005, the company’s web sales totaled $98.7 million, an increase of 22.8% from sales of $80.4 million for the same period in 2004.
Total sales at Guitar Center in the first six months of 2005 were $798.7 million, up 15.9% from $689.3 million a year ago. The web accounted for 12.3% of all sales during the first half of 2005, up from 11.6% a year ago. “Our growth can be attributed to increased marketing efforts in many different areas as well as a myriad of ongoing site improvements," says Eric Meadows, Internet director for Musician’s Friend, No. 47 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites.
Instead of making wholesale changes to its marketing and merchandising strategy in 2005, MusiciansFriend.com is making only minor adjustments. For example, MusiciansFriend.com now features more content such as product reviews written by professional musicians and zoom technology that lets serious musicians, the site’s core shoppers, see merchandise in more detail.
