Webvan Steers for Atlanta
In its first expansion beyond the San Francisco Bay area, Internet grocer Webvan Group has begun operations in greater Atlanta. "Webvan is on its way toward creating a national presence," says George T. Shaheen, the company's president and CEO. "The Greater Atlanta Area is our second market, and we continue to work toward being online in 15 major metropolitan markets by the end of 2001.''
Webvan says its operations will bring approximately 900 new jobs to the Atlanta area. Its local headquarters and distribution center, the hub of its Atlanta operations, are located in Suwanee, Ga. The company also says its has signed agreements with two key suppliers prominent in the region: FreshPoint for produce and Buckhead Beef for meats.
