In a bid to speed orders, PlanetRx.com, South San Francisco, Calif., will open a second distribution center this month in Memphis. The 130,000-foot facility, in the works since late last year, has 10 times the pharmacy capacity and 300% larger capacity for fulfilling orders for over-the-counter health and beauty goods, the company says.
The new center features automated tote movement, paperless picking and automated dispensing technology in the pharmacy, as well as more bulk storage and shipping capacity. Along with the warehouse equipment, PlanetRx says it will add new systems for order management, inventory management and purchasing.
The new PlanetRx distribution center, which will be fully operational on May 15, will contain more than 16,000 nonprescription medications and health and beauty items. The building also will house PlanetRx's staff of more than 75 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
