Sales Surge at JCPenney.com

JCPenney, Plano, Texas, says its Web store sales continue to exceed expectations, growing more than sevenfold in the first quarter over the same period last year. The retailer says first-period sales stood at $47, up from $6 million in 1999. For the month of April, the Web site recorded sales of $14 million, compared with $2 million last year, it says.
