Leading Independent Food Retailer to Deploy Engage`s Retail Industry Solution to Improve Promotion Planning, Tracking and Effectiveness

ANDOVER, Mass., January 8, 2002 - Engage, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENGA), a leading enterprise marketing software company and majority-owned operating company of CMGI Inc. (Nasdaq: CMGI), today announced that H-E-B, one of the nation`s largest independently-owned food retailers, has selected its content management solution for ad production as part of an enterprise-wide strategic software investment. H-E-B will install Engage`s Retail Industry Solution to improve workflow of millions of advertised weekly circulars and advertising collateral with 66 different versions, distributed across more than 295 stores throughout Texas, Louisiana and Mexico.

The Engage Retail Industry Solution is comprised of three core software platforms: ContentServer, workflow automation and digital asset management software with the capability to deliver marketing programs across both traditional and new media channels; ApprovalServer, an Internet-based solution that helps companies proof, edit and approve content for delivery; and PromoPlanner, a planning solution that helps companies maximize their return on promotional campaigns.

Engage`s PromoPlanner software will enable H-E-B to integrate its advertised promotions with other business systems automatically, allowing the retailer to retrieve product information such as SKU numbers, pricing, and product and promotion-based historical financial performance data with increased efficiency. When combined with the broader Content Management solution for multichannel marketing, this information triggers the workflow automation tools in ContentServer, which then tracks the promotion as it moves through the system to ApprovalServer, enabling employees to proof, correct and revise online and offline promotion materials before they are delivered across various channels.
