Indigo grows Q2 web sales by 7.2%

Indigo Books & Music, Canada’s largest book retailer, is reporting an e-commerce sales gain of 7.2% for the second quarter while total sales rose by 3.8%. Overall the web represented 10% of all sales for Indigo vs. 9% in Q2 2005. Q2 e-commerce sales totaled $14.5 million in U.S. dollars compared with $13.5 million in Q2 2005. For the quarter total sales in U.S. dollars amounted to $152.2 million vs. $146.7 million in the same quarter last year. "This was the fifth consecutive quarter in which we experienced improved revenue,” says Indigo CEO Heather Reisman. “Through a combination of aggressive continuous improvement and the implementation of consumer-centric programs, we are driving very positive results.”

Overall the web represented 10% of all Q2 2006 sales for Indigo vs. 9% in Q2 2005. Indigo, No. 139 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites.

On another front, the company is updating its e-commerce strategy to include new merchandise categories and a revamped products page. To make it easier to find merchandise, Indigo will update its main product page template with new features such as better guided navigation that recognizes and corrects misspelled words or phrases, and more book reviews, ratings and staff picks.
