Toys “R” Us posts January through June online sales of $126 million
Toys “R” Us is reporting a solid gain in web sales for the second quarter and for the first half of the year. In a recently filed second quarter earnings statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Toys “R” Us increased web sales by 21.6% to $62 million compared to $51 million for the second quarter of 2004.
For the first half of 2005, web sales totaled $126 million, up 21.2% compared to $104 million for the period January through June in 2004. The web represented 3% of total first-half sales of $4.2 billion vs. 2.5% on total sales of $4.1 billion for first half of 2004.
Strong sales of toy and baby merchandise for the second quarter contributed to an 18% increase in the number of online orders as well a 2% increase in average order value versus Q2 2004, the company says. For January through June, more sales of toy and baby merchandise contributed to a 17% increase in the number of web orders as well as a 4% increase in the average order compared to the first six months of 2004, says Toys “R” Us, No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites,
