Buy.com sells its way to e-commerce growth
Buy.com Inc. increased its revenues by 16% for the first half of the year, growing to $151.3 million for the period January through June, compared to sales of $130 million for the first six months of 2004, Buy.com, No. 33 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reported in a recently updated S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission
For the same time period, Buy.com reported a net loss of $6.4 million, down 33% from $9 million for January through June 2004.
Buy.com acquired slightly fewer customers for the first half of the year compared to the same time in 2004. In January through June 2005, the company acquired 433,533 new customers who spend on average $122 on each purchase, compared to new customer acquisitions of 454,500 and an average ticket of $119 for the first half of 2004.
Buy.com filed for an initial public stock offering in January.
