Sharper Image Corp. continues to struggle with its e-commerce sales. For September, Sharper Image reported an 18% decline in Internet sales to $5.4 million compared to $6.5 million in September 2004.
Total company sales in September were down 21% to $36.6 million from $46.4 million a year ago. The web accounted for 15% of all sales vs. 14% a year ago.
Total store sales declined 15% to $21.3 million from $25 million in September last year, while comparable store sales in September decreased 21% percent. Total catalog sales/direct marketing sales (including wholesale) were $9.9 million compared to last September’s $14.9 million, a decrease of 34%. Internet sales at Sharper Image, No. 63 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, in the first eight months of Sharper Image’s fiscal year were $52.2 million, down 12% from $59.4 million last year.
"We were disappointed with September's sales, which were below our expectations," says CEO Richard Thalheimer.
