Pier 1 posts an 11% increase in first half web sales
Pier 1 Imports Inc. generated slightly higher e-commerce numbers for the second quarter vs. a year ago. Pier 1, No. 299 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, recorded web sales of $2.6 million for the second quarter of its 2006 fiscal year, up 8.3% from web sales of $2.4 million for the same period in 2005.
For the first half of the 2006 fiscal year, Pier 1 had web sales of $5.2 million versus e-commerce sales of $4.7 million for the first six months of fiscal 2005, an increase of 10.6%.
The web accounted for 1% of all sales of $844.3 million for the first half of Pier 1’s current fiscal year about the same percentage as a year ago, when total sales reached $884.2 million.
To drive web sales in 2005 and 2006, Pier 1 is counting on a number of new initiatives. For instance, Pier 1 plans to distribute approximately 2 million catalogs to all of its U.S. regions this fall and by November will post an interactive version on Pier1.com. In fiscal 2005, the site received an average of 3.1 million visitors per month.
