FrogMagic.com acquires ZipSend

As part of its strategy to expand in the Internet gifting technology space, FrogMagic.com completed its acquisition of ZipSend Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the merger, SAP AG owns an undisclosed position in the consolidated company. The combined company has agreements with over 30 suppliers.
Internet shoppers use the combined company's technology to send real-world gifts using the recipient's e-mail address for delivery. The recipient gets a gift ID and then provides the shipping information. Gift notifications can be sent to the recipient's e-mail address, instant message ID, or chat name.
"Building on the success of recent partnerships with ProFlowers.com, uDate.com, and other recent strategic moves, this merger is the logical next step in our strategy to become the gifts-by-e-mail leader," said Jared Polis, the founder and Chairman of FrogMagic. "People want to inject a tangible element of the real-world into their online correspondence," said Polis, who also co-founded BlueMountain.com, an online greeting card site.
Rob Hansen, founder and CEO of ZipSend, has been named president and chief executive officer of the merged company, while FrogMagic co-founder David Mejias will remain as chief operating officer.
"Online communities, where friendships and romances are constantly developing, is one of the fastest-growing segments of the Internet," said Mejias. "FrogMagic.com enables community members to extend the gift-giving aspect of a real-world friendship into their online relationships, without requiring either party to reveal any real-world information."
