In a move to get more in-store traffic from young adults, a group of 600 California McDonald’s restaurants is distributing electronic coupons in a web site/cell phone promotion.
The 600 restaurants, all members of the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California, let consumers go to a web site to enter their cell phone number to receive a coupon for a free McFlurry ice cream desert sent as a text message to their phone. The association will be advertising the program on buses and billboards, and consumers will also have the option to use a code number in the ads to send a text message to McDonald’s, which will then send an electronic coupon back to their phone.
"This promotion is yet another example of how McDonald's is reaching out to the youth market in a way that is meaningful to them," said Clayton Paschen III, president of the association. "As a leader in the food industry, McDonald's continues to provide customers choices and offers that fit in with their lifestyles."
