Overstock.com is adding online parking for 340,000 vehicles

Overstock.com soon will have more than 500,000 vehicles available for sale in its online Cars program following a deal with Dealer Specialties. The exclusive arrangement more than triples Overstock.com’s inventory from approximately 160,000 vehicles to more than 500,000.

Dealer Specialties provides vehicle data collection, image generation, inventory management and window labeling services to nearly 10,000 car dealers across the country. Under terms of the agreement, Overstock.com Cars will integrate those dealers’ inventory into its own. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Our agreement with Dealer Specialties will help turn the Overstock.com Cars program into a comprehensive site, bringing buyers and sellers together as we continue to grow our inventory,” says Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne.

The Dealer Specialties clients will receive a basic listing on the Overstock.com Cars web site. The listing includes a photo, vehicle specifications, dealer name and a customer contact form.

Overstock.com, No. 18 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, doesn’t own the inventory. Rather, it provides an electronic forum for dealers to use in selling their products. Dealers pay Overstock.com a fee for the services.

Dealers can choose to receive instant text messages directly from potential customers, enabling the dealer to contact an interested party within 30 seconds. Dealers also can contract with Overstock.com for premium placement, search result priority, display of additional photos, vehicle videos, inventory tools and additional marketing items, for an additional fee.

The deal gives Dealer Specialties’ dealer customers greater exposure to potential buyers via access to Overstock.com’s 15 million monthly visitors, says Brian Page, general manager of data services at Dealer Specialties. Dealer Specialties’ Inventory Manager software automatically will update inventory changes on Overstock.com, as well as on other partner web sites.

Dealer Specialties is owned by Dominion Enterprises Co., a media and information services company serving employment, real estate, automotive, recreation and industrial markets in the United States. Dominion Enterprises operates technology businesses that offer Internet marketing, web site design and hosting, lead generation, CRM, and data capture and distribution services

Geoff Atkinson, Overstock.com’s director of e-mail and web site marketing, will speak at Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose, in a workshop titled E-mail Marketing: Being Persuasive, Not Offensive.
