Shop.com’s merchant ranks pass the 1,000 mark

Shop.com, an online comparison shopping site that allows consumers to buy products at Shop.com without going to the retailer’s site, has signed more than 1,000 merchants, the company reported today.

Among merchants selling at Shop.com are 1-800-Flowers, Ashford.com, Blair, Bombay, Coldwater Creek, eBags, Frontgate, Hammacher Schlemmer, Harry and David, OfficeMax, Omaha Steaks, Overstock.com, RedEnvelope, Sears, Sharper Image, SmartBargains and Smith & Hawken.

“SHOP.COM’s marketplace provides us with the opportunity to sell our products to new customers whom we might not ordinarily encounter,” said Jacob Hawkins, vice president of online marketing at Overstock.com. “We also become the merchant-of-record with any new customer and this provides Overstock with an invaluable opportunity to build a long-term relationship with that consumer.”

Shop.com earns a commission on each sale, which Shop.com calls cost-per-order. “The growing traction of Shop.com within the merchant community is truly gratifying to us because it means that the appeal of the CPO model, which we pioneered and have promoted for many years, is finally being recognized by our core customer,” said president Bruce Sellers. Shop.com started life as CatalogCity.com, where consumers could browse and buy from catalog merchants.
