ebates.com gets a new look, new navigation and new features
Online shopping rebate site ebates.com has launched a re-designed site featuring more comprehensive and focused search, product pages with descriptions and images and smoother customer interface and navigation. Customer feedback since the re-launch Oct. 1 has been positive, Markus Mullarkey, senior vice president, sales and marketing, tells InternetRetailer.com.
Among the new features are guides to products and categories, including a wedding guide, a guide to retailers with clearance sales and a jewelry guide with information on gemstones and buying tips. “We are offering more of a helping hand to users, rather than being a pure directory or taking a technology-based approach,” Mullarkey says.
Ebates’ new search program searches for products across all merchants rather than requiring, as it did before, the customer to specify the category she wanted to search in. If the merchant with the product she sought didn’t happen to be in the category she chose, the product wouldn’t appear in the results. In addition, the new search function includes images and descriptions of products, The old search function included only the name of a product.
Ebates has also populated its site with its own product pages with images and descriptions, so consumers can know more about a product before they click to a merchant. In the past, the shopper had to click to the merchant to view product details. But before she could do that, she had to log-in or register, a stumbling block for many shoppers that would cause them to abort their shopping trip. “The idea was to present more information on our site, to do some more hand holding so customers are further down the purchase funnel before they go to the merchant,” Mullarkey says. “That way, the merchant experiences higher conversion rates.”
Also with the re-design, ebates offers its members exclusive merchant deals.
