The new, bigger GameStop gets an e-c chief from Electronic Boutique

Now that GameStop Corp. has completed its acquisition of Electronics Boutique Holdings Corp. the company will spend the next several months evaluating the combined e-commerce opportunities.

In the meantime, GameStop, No. 189 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, is naming a new e-commerce executive. John Brittell, the divisional vice president of e-commerce and CRM operations at Electronics Boutique, has been named GameStop’s vice president of e-commerce and direct marketing. He will be a direct report to senior vice president of marketing Jack Beuttell.

Prior to the merger, GameStop.com and the company’s other e-commerce sites, including SoftwareEtc.com, Babbages.com and Funcoland.com, were operated as a wholly owned subsidiary. Now all options, including merging all e-commerce brands and operations under the GameStop.com umbrella, are being evaluated by a transition committee, a spokesman says. A final decision on combining e-commerce operations will be made by the end of the year, the company says.

GameStop, which completed its acquisition of Electronics Boutique in a deal valued at $1.4 billion on Oct. 10, is now the largest video game retail chain with more than 4,200 stores in the U.S. and in 15 foreign countries. On the web, GameStop.com sells software, hardware, accessories and game console systems and is also the largest reseller of used games. Each year, GameStop.com receives nearly 30 million visitors.
