ToolKing.com ratchets up online reconditioned tools offerings

ToolKing.com has launched TKRecon.com, a web site that sells reconditioned tools and machines for professionals and do-it-yourselfers. The site is designed for easier access to product information to assist shoppers with buying decisions.

The new site features a refined search utility designed to help customers find products by model number or manufacturer without worrying about details, such as hyphens or spaces. Product listings now contain more information and category-based buying guides can help customers choose specific items, the company says.

ToolKing.com customers are becoming more comfortable with reconditioned tools, says managing partner Don Cohen. “We have noticed a growing confidence in our customers’ perception of factory-reconditioned tools, and decided to create a comprehensive web site where our consumers can find these products without having to scour hundreds of product pages.”

Factory-reconditioned tools are items that have been returned and cannot be sold as new. These products go through a strict quality inspection, and are resold to customers contingent on the fact that they work and function to new product standards, Cohen says. In addition, these products frequently come with a one-year warranty issued by the manufacturer.

Factory-reconditioned tool inventories change frequently, subject to manufacturer decisions, which Cohen hopes will coax shoppers to check the new site often. “This encourages a ‘treasure-hunt’ philosophy in our customers. Products on the site today might not be there tomorrow,” Cohen says.

ToolKing.com, No. 302 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, launched its tool and machinery site in 2001.

Cohen will speak at the Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition, June 4-7 in San Jose, in a session titled How the Internet Creates Commodity Pricing—and What You Can Do About It.
