Amazon takes a shot at hockey with its Unbox TV-download service


Amazon.com announced today it will offer hockey fans downloads of National Hockey League game telecasts for $2.99. Games will be available no sooner than 48 hours after the final buzzer. Amazon says it will offer at least three games each week during the playoffs and regular season.

The league’s playoffs are now under way and available through Unbox. Also available are dozens of the most famous games in National Hockey League history.

Amazon.com No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, launched Unbox in September, enabling consumers to download to their computers and portable devices movies and episodes of television shows. A TV series episode costs $1.99, and moves $9.99 to $14.99. Unbox also rents moves for $1.99.
