Ecometry acquires POS software provider ADS Retail

Ecometry, a provider e-commerce software for multi-channel retailers, has expanded its product line with the acquisition of ADS Retail, a vendor of Java-based POS software, Ecometry said today. Terms were not disclosed.

ADS Retail, based in Upper Marlboro, MD, has installed POS systems for retailers including The Disney Store, Urban Outfitters and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Its Java-based Nextor POS software will enable Ecometry’s clients to extend customer data and personalized shopping experiences to store POS systems as well as retail web sites, Ecometry CEO John Marrah said.

The acquisition has the potential to strengthen Ecometry’s position as a mid-market e-commerce platform provider, says Paula Rosenblum, director of retail research at Aberdeen Group Inc.

“The mid-market is a bit under-served right now, and they are certainly assembling a full-fledged mid-market multi-channel suite,” she says. “Their challenge is to put all the pieces together and get some customer wins.” Earlier this year, Ecometry and its parent, Multi-Channel Holdings, acquired Blue Martini Software, a provider of e-marketing and personalization technology.

“We’re moving rapidly toward our goal of being the leading provider of customer-focused, multi-channel solutions for the retail industry,” Marrah said. “ADS Retail’s store applications are a perfect complement to our relationship marketing, e-commerce and order management capabilities. The flexible architecture of the Nextor solution will enable us to quickly deliver to the store the same level of customer intelligence and personalization found in our other products.”

Don Hooker, CEO of ADS Retail, said the integration of ADS and Ecometry software products will address a demand among ADS customers. “Our customers have told us they need solutions that provide a consistent customer experience regardless of channel,” he said.
