First quarter web sales grow 17.5% at 1-800-Flowers.com

Online sales at 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. totaled $62.3 million for the first quarter of the 2006 fiscal year, an increase of 17.5% from $53 million over the prior year. Overall the web accounted for 55.2% of total revenues of $112.8 million versus 54.4% of total sales of $97.5 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2005.

“As we saw throughout the second half of fiscal 2005, our marketing message – ‘Your Florist of Choice’ – is resonating with customers and coupled with our stepped-up marketing efforts, helped us achieve revenue growth of almost 16% in a period that is traditionally our slowest,” says CEO Jim McCann.

During the first quarter, 1-800-Flowers attracted 337,000 online customers, who accounted for 66.4% of all new customer traffic. More than 1.3 million customers placed orders during the first quarter of which 61.1% were repeat customers, up from 60.5% in the first quarter of fiscal 2005, the company says.
