J.C. Penney’s web sales are up 30% in first nine months
At J.C. Penney Co. Inc., year-over-year Internet sales rose 20% for the four weeks ended Oct. 29 and 30% for the 39 weeks ended Oct. 29, the retailer reported today. By comparison, combined catalog and Internet sales decreased 2.9% for the four-week period, to $235 million from $242 million, but increased 3.5% for the 39-week period, to $1.93 billion from $1.87 billion. J.C. Penney does not separately report Internet sales dollar volume.
Total sales at J.C. Penney, No. 11 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, rose 1.7% for the four-week period ended Oct. 29 to $1.41 billion from $1.38 billion, while comparable store sales rose 2.4%. For the 39-week period, total sales rose 3.7% to $12.58 billion from $12.13 billion, while comparable store sales rose 3%.
