Borders plans to go with wireless web access in nearly all stores
Borders Group Inc. expects to offer wireless, high-speed Internet access to customers in most of its 410 stores nationwide by mid June, the company reports. Wireless Internet access--known as wi-fi for wireless fidelity--is already available in 145 stores in California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas and Washington. The service is being provided through T-Mobile USA Inc.’s T-Mobile HotSpot. Such services are already available in such chains as Starbucks and Schlotzsky’s Delis.
Wi-fi service allows any customers with a T-Mobile HotSpot account and a wireless-Internet-access-equipped device to log onto the Internet from within a store. T-Mobile says wi-fi service is available in 2,300 locations nationwide.
Customers can choose to prepay for access, pay as they use it or buy unlimited national access starting at $29.99 a month.
