Keeping the promise to customers
The web site of multi-channel clothing retailer and manufacturer Men’s Warehouse promises same-day order fulfillment, with the operation picking, packing and shipping as many as 150 orders per day. To cut shipping costs while keeping its promise to customers as its e-commerce sales volume grew, Men’sWearhouse implemented Kewill Systems’ Kewill.Ship Enterprise.
The system is an enterprisewide, browser-enabled software application that rate shops among carriers for the best shipping rates while expanding visibility among trading partners. It replaces Men’s Wearhouse’s former system in which warehouse personnel chose randomly among three carriers, each with its own computer station in the retailer`s warehouse facility.
Often, according to the company, under the former system carrier selection came down to which terminal was free at the time. “That rarely translated into getting the fastest delivery service for the best price,” says Jason Adcock, e-commerce fulfillment manager for Men’s Wearhouse.
In addition to rate shopping, Kewill.Ship Enterprise provides carton level detail, which lists the contents of each package, and electronic manifesting that lists orders and order status. Each package is scanned at every shipping transfer point under the system until it reaches its end destination. The customer can track the package’s progress online
“This has made the job a lot easier,” says Adcock. “It’s virtually eliminated errors. Fewer mistakes keep customers happier.”
