In its ongoing quest for new music download customers, Napster Inc. now wants to attract concert goers who may want to relive the music event they’ve just attended.
To attract more live concert goers who may want to purchase a digital download of their favorite concert, Napster, No. 331 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, recently launched a new marketing agreement with Instant Live, a division of Clear Channel Entertainment Music Group.
Under the arrangement, Napster will have exclusive digital distribution rights to Instant Live content. Napster subscribers will be able to stream or download full-length performance recordings of both existing and newly recorded Instant Live content as part of their monthly subscription fee. Napster subscribers can also purchase individual concert tracks for an additional 99 cents and pay to download Instant Live concerts and songs to a handheld device.
"Our partnership with Instant Live gives music fans the opportunity to see a great concert and then go home and download it on Napster" says CEO Chris Gorog. "Giving our members access to truly live performances allows them to recapture the concert experiences of favorite artists."
The new Instant Live content available to Napster subscribers includes concerts and music from groups such as The Allman Brothers Band, Bauhaus, The Black Crowes and Copeland.
Napster sees new content and marketing deals with diverse entertainment companies as a strategy for building market share in the music download business. In August, Napster announced a similar content and marketing arrangement with XM Satellite Radio.
