WineEnthusiast.com boosts revenue per visitor with personalized site search
When WineEnthusiast.com wanted to add more personalization to its site search function, it turned to CleverSet Inc., a provider of personalized services for online retailers. The result: a 23% lift in revenue-per-visitor in the first two months.
Wine Enthusiast experienced at 20% increase in the number of site search users who made purchases when it launched a site-search-and-navigation application from Endeca Technologies Inc. earlier this year. But the retailer of wine racks, cabinets, and other wine-related accessories wanted to build on those higher sales by adding personalization, says Glenn Edelman, senior director of online marketing and merchandising, for WineEnthusiast.com.
CleverSet uses statistical relational learning, a technology that analyzes the relationships between millions of data sources—including clickstream data, store customer information, product catalog details and purchase history—to generate real-time, individualized recommendations throughout the session. Wine Enthusiast also is using CleverSet to power recommendations on the search results page when no search results are returned, providing a better customer experience.
“Endeca is based on your existing navigation path,” he says. “CleverSet takes into account everything from what that person bought in the past, what other people bought, what other people have bought along with that product to your referring URL and the search term you used. There are a lot more variables they take into account.”
By using CleverSet in conjunction with the Endeca technology, Wine Enthusiast is able to present more targeted results to site visitors, Edelman says.
“CleverSet enables us to truly personalize product recommendations to each and every individual and, at the same time, expose our customers to a wider range of wine accessories they may not have found on their own,” he says.
