The big get bigger as Google and Yahoo show the fastest growth among search
Google and Yahoo together accounted for 77.1% of all U.S. web searches in April and the top two search engines are putting more distance between themselves and their rivals.
Google alone accounted for 55.2% of the 3.8 billion U.S. search queries in April, according to the monthly tally by Internet data-gathering firm Nielsen/NetRatings. Yahoo accounted for 21.9% of searches, followed by MSN at 9.0%, AOL at 5.4% and Ask.com at 1.8%. No other search engine accounted for more than 1% of queries.
Google and Yahoo are also growing much faster than their rivals. Google’s year-over-year growth rate was 42.1% and Yahoo grew by 28.1%. By contrast, MSN search queries rose by 7.4% and AOL by 6.1%. Searches at Ask.com decreased by 2.3%, according to the Nielsen/NetRatings data.
