J. Jill’s web sales grow to 21% of all sales in Q1
Web-based sales at J. Jill Group Inc. reached $17.3 million in the first quarter, up 26% from $13.7 million in the first quarter of last year, the company reported today. Web sales account for 21% of J. Jill’s revenue, up from 18.7% a year ago. J. Jill’s Q1 catalog sales totaled $33.7 million, down 10% from $37.5 million in Q1 last year. Total revenue reached $82.36 million in the quarter, up 12.3% from Q1 last year.
“Our long-term strategy remains to continue to build J. Jill into a national lifestyle brand accessible through multiple distribution channels,” says Gordon R. Cooke, president and CEO. “With 38% of our sales coming from retail, 21% from e-commerce and 41% from our catalog in the first quarter, we have made tremendous progress toward this goal in just a little over three years.” The company has an e-mail database of 827,000 customers, Cooke reports.
Net income for the quarter was $768,000 vs. $2.7 million in the first quarter of last year. The company reports that retail sales per square foot declined by 14% compared to last year.
