CouponCabin.com, an online coupon service, says it experienced sharp increases in coupons clicked or downloaded on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Coupons can be used at retailers’ web sites or stores.
On Friday, consumers clicked on an average 2,600 coupons or offers per hour, a 105% increase year-over-year. On Monday, shoppers clicked on an average of 4,092 coupons or offers per hour, a 226% year-over-year increase, says Scott Kluth, founder of CouponCabin.
While most coupons found on the site are used online, CouponCabin also issues printable coupons for in-store purchases. On Friday, consumers downloaded 9,812 coupons for use at offline retailers, while on Monday shoppers downloaded 13,191 printable coupons, Kluth says.
Coupons for Sears portrait were the most popular download for offline use on both Friday (1,700 coupons) and Monday (2,818 coupons), Kluth says, adding that printable coupons accounted for a higher-than-expected percentage of total coupons selected.
CouponCabin collects online offers from more than 800 general and specialty merchandise retailers, including Circuit City, Kmart, Sharper Image, Staples and Toys R Us. It also sorts through 1,100 e-mails weekly to provide a daily update of special offers, discounts and promotions.
