Quarterly sales rise 41% from year ago at eBags
EBags has posted its fourth consecutive profitable quarter on an EBITDA basis for its third fiscal quarter ending March 30, on net sales that rose 41% over the third quarter of 2002.
It’s also the fourth straight quarter of positive cash flow for the Denver-based e-retailer. “Sales at eBags are flourishing despite difficult times for travel and the economy in general,” says eBags CEO Jon Nordmark, noting that eBags has sold more than 2.1 million bags since it launched in 1999.
EBags attributes the growth to efforts to continually enhance the customer experience, including its posting of more than 111,000 unedited customer ratings and some 63,000 testimonials from eBags customers about the online retailer’s 8,000 products and 180 brands. Additional features on eBags’ site help shoppers accomplish goals less easily accomplished offline, such as search features that allow shoppers to find bags to fit specific models of laptops and carry-ons that fit the size requirements of different airlines.
In other news, eBags has appointed a Lands’ End veteran to its Board of Directors. During 19 years with Lands’ End, Dave Zentmyer held the title of vice president in the company’s Internet, corporate sales and international divisions.
