Online spending on Visa cards rose 28.3% year over year last week
E-commerce spending on Visa branded cards in the U.S. rose 28.3% year-over-year to $3.2 billion for the week ending Dec. 4, according to Visa U.S.A.’s Holiday SpendTrak report. Online spending on Visa cards totaled $505 million on the Monday after Thanksgiving, but online purchases for the week peaked on Dec. 1 at $575 million, a 41% increase from a year earlier.
Visa processed 38.3 million online transactions for the week, up 28.3% from the same period in 2004. The average ticket was $84.58.
Online purchases accounted for about 13% of the $25.1 billion in spending on all Visa cards for the week and about 9% of total transactions of 428.6 million. The average ticket for all spending on Visa cards was $58.26.
