Disney Online, a business unit of The Walt Disney Co., is going after the adult section of the interactive gaming market. Since 1995, Disney Online has been building a virtual version of its highly successful theme parks for younger gamers.
But now Disney, No. 55 in the Internet Retailer Top 400 Guide to Retail Web Sites, is targeting a more mature audience with Game Café, a downloadable games collection and web site specifically tailored for an adult audience, says Steve Parkis, vice president of premium products for Disney Online.
Disney’s Game Café will offer 20 games with appeal for adults 25-45, Parkis says. Disney, which is offering a free trial and pricing its new adult digital games at $9.95 to $19.95 per game, is building the new site with content provided by leading online game developers and publishers such as FreshGames, PlayFirst and PopCap Games. “We are providing high quality online entertainment for kids and parents,” Parkis says. Disney Online operates one of the web’s most frequently visited entertainment sites and averages about 19 million unique visitors per month, according to comScore Networks Inc.
