Scholastic makes school COOL for parents

Since 1948 Scholastic Book Clubs, a division of Scholastic Corp., a global children’s publishing, education and media company, has sold books for school kids and helped teachers build classroom libraries with books and other resources. Now Scholastic, No. 42 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has introduced Clubs Ordering OnLine, or COOL, to bring the longstanding catalog business to the Internet.

COOL continues the tradition of Scholastic Book Clubs, with teachers handing out a catalog full of books and making suggestions, followed by many students selecting books of interest to them and ordering the tomes with their parents. Clubs Ordering OnLine gives parents a fast and convenient tool that enables them to go online with their children and order books together, says Judy Newman, president of Scholastic Book Clubs. Orders still go directly to the teacher, but with credit card payments teachers do not need to deal with order forms or calculations and parents do not need to deal in cash or check.

Online, teachers still earn bonus points that can be used to get free resources for their classrooms.

In addition to ordering online, Scholastic Book Clubs will continue to offer parents and teachers the ability to order books using the traditional method of payment with cash or check.
