Top 3 online flower sites have a lock on the market, Hitwise reports


The top three online flower sellers commanded nearly half the market during the week leading up to Mothers Day, Internet traffic monitoring service Hitwise reports.

1-800-Flowers.com was clearly the number 1 flower site, earning 18.72% of all visits to flowers and gifts sites for the week ending May 10. In a strong second place was FTD.com, with 13.87% of all visits, followed by Proflowers.com, with 10.94%. In a distant fourth place was Teleflora.com, at 2.26%. Flowers.com at 0.86% rounded out the top five.

Hitwise reports that 1-800-Flowers.com’s share of visits to all retail web sites was 7.5 times greater than it was two weeks earlier, when the site’s traffic began building in anticipation of Mothers Day.

E-greeting cards also are becoming more popular with mothers and children. Visits to e-greetings sites grew 139% on Mothers Day compared to the previous Sunday.

Yahoo Greetings: 27.47%
Hallmark.com: 13.2%
MSN Greeting Cards: 6.41%
123 Greetings: 6%
BlueMountain: 5.53%
00Fun.com: 5.38%
American Greetings: 3.76%
Pogolo: 3.14%
E-Greetings: 1.94%
DaySpring: 1.87%
