Online movie rental company NetFlix Inc. has opened its 19th and 20th distribution facilities--both in the Midwest, the company reported today. NetFlix’s newest centers serve customers in the Chicago and St. Louis metropolitan areas and extends the availability of one- or two-day service to 12 million consumers, NetFlix says.
NetFlix began offering online movie rentals four years ago in the San Francisco area. It reports that 4.6% of Bay Area households are NetFlix customers. Netflix says it will continue to open distribution facilities with the goal by the end of this year being to offer next-day service to 70% of its customers. NetFlix charges $19.95 a month for unlimited DVD movie rentals with no due dates. Subscribers can have up to three movies checked out at a time.
Netflix also operates shipping centers in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Newark, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Portland, San Jose, Stamford, Seattle, and Washington, DC. It stocks more than 14,500 DVD titles. It delivers movies via first class mail.
